In a recent article in Health magazine, three companies were profiled as being "clean-beauty crusaders": Briogeo, Clark's Botanicals, and Westman Atelier. All the companies are analyzing their packaging and doing their best at making it sustainable. According to the Briogeo piece, Briogeo uses bottles that contain 25% PCR, postconsumer resin, and all of the shampoo and conditioner bottles are recyclable. Clark's has repackaged the entire line to use glass instead of acrylic jars and they are using airless pumps instead of traditional pumps which eliminates the need for a second inner jar. Finally, Westman Atelier is actively pursuing a refillable concept for their new products. Clearly, there is a demand for products to be packaged in more sustainable way and packaging companies are working on new solutions. Sustainability is now is part of the buyer's decision making process. Other companies should take notice and start moving in this direction or they may find that they lose customers.
